ABOUT ME:

Hello! My name is Mya and I was born and raised in the US and have lived in various states including Georgia, Texas, and California. In 2021, I decided to move to a small town in Slovakia to find independence and learn more about my Hungarian heritage. Before I moved, I studied to become an English teacher and earned my TEFL certificate in order to kickstart my career in Europe. For over three years I have been teaching students of various levels, ages, and nationalities both online and in-person, and I am currently working for a language institute here in Pécs. Now that I am living in Hungary, I would like to continue teaching people and help them reach their English goals. ^-^

Teaching Method:

I find the best approach to learning any language is immersing oneself into the culture and having conversations with natives completely in that language, which is especially true for such a fast and evdeveloping language such as English. Of course, if you do not live in an English-speaking country this can be difficult to accomplish, therefore during my lessons I will only speak in English and use resources made for English speakers, such as Hollywood movies or books written by English authors. I also try to create an environment in which the learner feels comfortable to make mistakes. Making mistakes is a huge part of learning any language, and we often learn faster through them, so one of my roles as your teacher is to motivate you to be confident enough to make mistakes and further you towards your language goals.

FAQ:

Where do you teach classes?
- Anywhere! Classes can be held at the student’s house, a coffee shop, outside, online, etc. Wherever the student feels the most comfortable to study at, we can have a class.
What experience and qualifications do you have?
- I have taught English both online and in-person while living in Slovakia, and here in Hungary I work at a language institute and continue to have private lessons with my students outside of work. I also have a TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate, and as a native speaker who was born and raised in the US, I have a great understanding of the language and nuances others may not have.
How can I book a lesson?

Do you teach children?
- Of course! I love teaching children and try to find creative ways to keep them engaged in lessons. I find that kids are like a sponge and can soak up information very quickly, especially languages. Therefore, I create lessons that include a lot of conversations and activities that interest the student and create an environment in which they feel comfortable learning and speaking with me. Textbooks and worksheets can be helpful, but kids are often uninterested in this approach, so I rely on real-life objects, interactive videos, and speaking topics that relate to them.
Do you use any textbooks?
- I do not use textbooks, but rather use online resources and resources made by myself. Although textbooks can be useful, I find that they do not give a true reflection of spoken English. If you feel more comfortable using a textbook or have one that you would like to use as a guideline, then of course we can use one.
